IS YOUR SKIN THIRSTY?

Would you even know if it was thirsty?

Do you have any items you swear by to beat thirsty skin?

As we begin spending countless hours basking in the sun , on airplanes, laying out by the beach or by the pool, our skin’s moisture takes a serious punch (especially in the summer). But don’t you worry. I’ve got you covered. I found some amazing products that can help quench your skin’s thirst this season to keep you feeling moisturized and happy all summer long!

Remember! A good skincare foundation this summer means great skin during the winter!

MUST HAVE SUMMER PRODUCTS:

  1. FACE MIST

Face mists are often overlooked, but they are perfect answer to give you an extra boost of moisture on the go. It’s the ultimate beach bag companion! A little spritz here and there throughout the day is a great refresher to keep your skin feeling nice and hydrated.

2. EXFOLIATOR

Exfoliating is super important for healthy moisturized skin. A korean once told me that exfoliating was kind of like raking the leaves before tending to the grass. You have to clear out all the gunk before you can really take care of your skin!

3. SERUM

A moisturizing serum is quickly becoming a summer staple for me. A little goes a long way, so I usually use about a pea size amount of the product a few minutes before I apply my moisturizer and my makeup. Serums sink deeper into your skin than a moisturizer does and they act almost as a barrier keeping your skin hydrated throughout the day.

4. MOISTURIZER

What’s a skincare routine without a great moisturizer? For summertime the gel ones are my my favorites! They go on very light but is seriously hydrating. I,m using a mini size sum gel cream from Banila co now. I use it morning and night and have even noticed the appearance of my pores shrinking. Not to mention that it leaves me with a gorgeous glow! The gel formula also soaks into my skin instantly.

5. MASK

I’m a firm believer that there’s a mask for everything … I’m using a bamboo hydrating gel mask from Banila co. now and it’s found its way into my summer staples. Masks made with aloe vera and chamomile are great for stressed skin too injecting tons of amazing hydrating goodness into your skin. I like to use it after a long day at the beach!

 3 SUMMER SKINCARE TIPS:

Did you know that summer months typically make up about 80% of the skincare damage that one might experience throughout the year?

The damage isn’t just from sun exposure, but worsened by irritated skin from the heat and the sweat and pollutants that clog pores. All this leads to stressed and unbalanced skin. And when your skin experiences that level of fatigue, your skin is working hard just to fight the free radicals and soothe skin versus working towards regeneration and rejuvenation.

2-3 short months could lead to 4X more damage than the remaining months in the year. Fear not, there are some practical tips that are pretty easy to apply to save your skin this summer. There’s still all the summer remaining, which means that’s still a good 40% of total year-round damage you can minimize. That’s a lot, so let’s get started (if you haven’t already)!

1) The right sunscreen:  I love how Koreans take skincare to another level. Read last week newsletter if you missed it! Please, protect your skin daily from sun damage.

2) Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse…but don’t overdo it:

Your pores need a lot of extra loving over the summer months. All the sweat makes it a field day for pollutants to stick to the skin, pores, you name it. To start with, keep to the basics RELIGIOUSLY – wash AM and PM. You’ll want to make sure to use at least one oil-based or micro-foam cleanser to be able to cleanse deep within the pores. Exfoliating with a gentle non-irritating product also helps over the summer, but don’t over-exfolitate or over-cleanse as your skin is already likely a bit raw and irritated from the sweat, rubbing and sun exposure. In the summer, especially, the right cleanser goes a very long way.

3) Keep skin hydrated:

Depending on where you live, in the summer it can be humid or really hot and dry. Regardless, with all the sweating and cooling off in air conditioned buildings, or because of the hot sun, summer months (even if humid) can counterintuitively lead to more parched skin. The trick is that you don’t want to hydrate with thick, oily or filmy products, especially if you have oily skin since that will be a fast-track to clogging your pores mixed in with your sweat. We highly recommend using lightweight, gel-type moisturizers that are typically water-based. If they have soothing ingredients like chamomile, even better. And of course, as over-stated as this is, drink plenty of water.

And here’s my summer pick for a lightweight moisturizing cream: Mizon’s WaterMax Aqua Gel Cream, a summer favorite in Korea.  ONLY FOR 120 rmb.
