I’m not one for complicated skincare routines being a mum of two so my process for choosing a face wash has been always rooted in simplicity. Throughout my life, I thought my skincare routine was sufficient enough.
Before living in Seoul I thought that after the morning shower my skin was clean. Afterward, I would slap on some moisturizer and it would be done. Soon I learnt that I was doing it all wrong after I was introduced to the double cleanse.
I’m usually so overwhelmed by choices but I decided to give double-cleansing a try.
Double cleansing has basically become my religion.
I,m still maintaining this routine day and night and I have to say that after a while of double cleansing my skin is not dry or tight, and while I sometimes still have some hormonal breakouts rising, my skin is no longer red or sensitive in certain areas.I, m simply in love with double cleansing, the skin gas gotten so much better and my breakouts in the chin area has been significantly reduced.
Why you might start washing your face twice?
Reason No. One: On a daily basis our faces are exposed some serious dirt, grime, pollution and makeup, even more here in Shanghai. Removing those impurities from the skin is a step that sometimes a once over cleanse cannot remove completely. This method ensures the dirt, pollution and grime is removed from the day all without stripping the skin or leaving it tight. Double cleansing helps remove two different types of dirt: oil based dirt and water based dirt. Oil based dirt– mainly makeup and excess oxidized sebum. Water based dirt– comprised of things like dirt, sweat and daily pollution. When it comes to a double cleanse it is like chemistry with the key theory of oil and water don’t mix. Oil dissolves other oil, therefore starting a solid double cleanse with an oil based product. Followed with a foaming or water based cleanser to remove any remaining residue and deeply cleanse and purify the skin.
Reason No. Two: Deep cleansing is the foundation of great skin. The double cleanse helps promote healthy, balanced and properly cleanser skin. Many top facialists worldwide, often tend to recommend the double cleanse method. After a week of double cleansing- skin will be ph normalized and looking about 5 times better. I don’t know about you, but I want beautiful skin. The end results you are left with beautiful, clear, radiant skin.
Reason No. Three: Skin care products after a while stop working. Skin changes depending on the weather, time of year, hormones stress, etc… so needless to say sometimes a small tweak is what the skin needs. A double cleanse helps regulate the skin regardless of the time of year, stress or hormones, and allows treatments to be fully absorbed in a regimen.
Double cleansing can help initiate massaging of the skin. Massaging is beneficial for the skin- as you stimulate the blood, oxygen and nutrient flow through the skin during a massage you help increase some wonderful anti-aging benefits.
TUTORIAL
The double cleanse is exactly what it sounds like: wash your face two times. Is the method of first cleansing your face with an oil-based cleanser to really break down and remove your make up and excess dirt on your face. The second part is going in with a water-based cleanser to wash off the rest of dirt remaining on your skin.
May sound weird, but oil removes oil. Then wash with a foaming or lotion wash which removes dead skin and sweat. The result is clean balanced skin!
Starts out with an oil cleanser followed by a foaming cleanser—you need two different formulas to properly and thoroughly cleanse your face.
Starting the routine with oil is a great way to clog pores rather than clear them out, but there’s a method to the madness, and the routine has been practiced by asian women for centuries for a reason. The theory is that it removes the initial layer of dirt and grime and dead skin cells from your skin, allowing the face wash you normally use to really get in there and do its job more effectively. It’s also supposed to be a gentler way of removing makeup; rather than hacking away at the gunk on your eyelids with a cotton pad or some other abrasive material or product, the oil supposedly whisks it away.
Step One : Oil Cleanser: is definitely essential to the skin routine.
Gently draws out oil-based debris such as sebum, makeup, SPF (aka pollutants)! Water-based cleansers aren’t capable of removing oil-based debris because oil and water don’t mix.
How to Use: Pump/scoop the oil cleanser and massage it onto your face in gentle, upward circular motions. Then add water to your face and massage again to emulsify the product (you’re doing it right if it turns milky). Lastly, rinse off the oil cleanser with lukewarm water.
Step two: Foam/Cream Cleanser:
Gently draws out water-based debris such as sweat and dirt.
How to Use: After the oil cleanser is thoroughly rinsed off, add foam or cream cleanser to your face, with gentle upward circular motions. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Repeat Both Morning and Night!
